YUCAIPA — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL. Yucaipa officials have announced a new Medic Squad 553 program, adding a fourth frontline paramedic unit to the city’s emergency medical response resources. The city says annual calls for service have risen from about 6,000 to nearly 10,000 since 2008, with roughly three-quarters of calls involving medical emergencies.
What residents need to know
The addition was prioritized in the city’s fiscal 2026–27 budget and is intended to help existing crews handle more frequent and overlapping calls. More units can increase operational capacity, but the announcement alone does not establish measured changes in response time or patient outcomes.
Yucaipa is inviting the community to a station open house and push-in ceremony on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at Fire Station 3, 34259 Wildwood Canyon Road. Its event notice lists an 11 a.m. push-in ceremony for the new medical apparatus.
Residents can use the open house to meet first responders and ask about operations. For a medical emergency, they should continue to call 911, not a city event organizer.
The city release describes a planned celebration and the launch of new service capacity; follow-up reporting will be needed to evaluate staffing, utilization and long-term cost.
